For Disneyglitter/fuckyeahtokyodisneyresort :)
Since you like the DLP (Disneyland Paris) Space Mountain: Mission 2 I figured I’d blog about it :)
Space Mountain: Mission 2 is the only SM in all of the parks that isn’t sterile white (at least I think it looks sterile compares to the French one). This is because the French were heavily influenced by one of the grandfathers of science fiction (and steampunk): Jules Verne (for those that doesn’t know Verne, shame on you, google him RIGHT NOW!).
They were heavily influenced by Verne’s De la terre à la lune (From the Earth to the Moon) which is why it has it’s distinctively steampunk look, and the cannon (the Columbiad cannon from the book) build in on the side, together with the sign with the archer reading Columbiad. Note the moon build into that sign on the top, that’s another detail referring to the book, and there are plenty more too :)
It’s also a proper wild rollercoaster ride, unlike the other Space Mountains, who I’ve often heard referred to as “Big Thunder Mountain in the dark” by people that been on them (I’ve not been on any, I’ve only ever been to DLP and I can’t ride that SP due to health reasons X_x).
So that gentle reader, is why the French Space Mountain is so radically different to the other ones: because the French love Jules Verne. And I applaud this, Verne is my favorite writer so I think it’s splendid that guests are acquainted with him. I hope they’ll love his books as much as they love rides like Space Mountain and Nautilus!

That all said and done, the entirety of Discoveryland (DLP’s Tomorrowland) is done in a retrofuturistic style (both steampunk and dieselpunk elements mixed together, but mostly steampunk) making it very different from other parks. Which is awesome really :)
